Provenance Inns – Harrogate

Project Overview

The West Park Hotel overlooks the beautiful Harrogate Stray, an open area of 200 acres of parkland right in the centre of this historic spa town. Once a Victorian coach house, the building had fallen into disuse before it was purchased by Provenance Inn’s, a collection of traditional Yorkshire pubs. This was to be their first hotel in the collection. The challenge from Provenance Inn’s to revitalise this prime location into an all day dining concept and boutique hotel. The brief was to attract make the dining areas a pull for a range of clients – ladies taking afternoon tea, business men visiting the regional conference centre, tourists staying at the hotel, luxury shoppers during the day and the discerning drinker and foodie.

Design Outcome

Provenance Inn have an award winning reputation as a traditional Yorkshire inn collection so we were keen to bring a hint of traditionalism to the concept. We created a bespoke design fretwork with a gentlemanly style circular pattern which was the feature wall upon entering the restaurant. This was echoed in the reception desk and the bar frontage. A former alleyway with stone archways was incorporated into the restaurant with brass orb lights reminiscent of traditional street lighting.

We designed a wine wall with a backdrop of natural stone referencing the Yorkshire stone drywalls. It enclosed a library of wine lockers to give a sense of home for the regular customer with a taste for expensive wines and spirits.

We designed and fabricated a wall feature, inspired by the Harrogate Stray, with abstract leaf patterns lasercut out of corten steel. Corten steel was chosen to juxtapose against the traditional We artificially rusted it to create a beautiful rust marbled into the duller tones of the corten. In front of this, we hung cage pendants and individually hung laser cut filigree style copper oak leaves, intertwining amongst the cables to create a modern chandelier. These were also integrated into the bay window lights looking out onto the parkland.
